NASA Program Scientist to Speak in College Seminar

NASA Program Scientist to Speak in College Seminar

Dr. Mario Perez will present his topic entitled, "An Insider's View for Success: Marketing Your Ideas" at 4pm, Thursday, 22 October 2009, 247 MARB. Speaking of his presentation he states, "In a world with almost infinite needs and limited resources, competition is unavoidable. Within big science, with a federal grant pool of more than $7B per year, the competition for funding is brutal but it is remarkably open for new individuals to get into these circles. However, most colleges often do not teach or train students to learn the basics to develop marketing skills so they can promote, sell and obtain grants to support their research, their careers and eventually assist them in their transition into the workforce. This talk is the beginning of a process to start your grant research and awareness of the many opportunities being competed that could be helpful for your career and your future."

Dr. Perez is the NASA Program Scientist for several Exoplanet Explorations such as the Space Interferometry Mission (SIM-Lite), Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF), Keck Observatory, Large Binocular Interferometer (LBTI) and the NExScl (NASA Exoplanet Science Institute). Dr. Perez is also the Discipline Scientist for Ultraviolet and Optical Technologies within the Astrophysics Division at NASA Headquarters, Science Mission Directorate. He obtained his PhD in physics and astronomy from BYU.

All college faculty and students are invited to attend this seminar. Refreshments will be served.
